Today the Biden administration announced its support for the TRIPS waiver, which would waive international patent protection for COVID vaccines and allow countries to make the vaccines themselves, probably saving the lives of hundreds of millions worldwide!  This waiver will help those countries who need the vaccines, but will also help the US-- if we don’t stop the virus everywhere, a more virulent variant will come to us.

 

As Rep. Lloyd Doggett, who was one of the national leaders on this issue, stated, “the best way to end the deadly global vaccine shortage is to enable more manufacturers to make vaccines."

 

The Texas Drought Project, working closely with the Texas Fair Trade Coalition and its director Bob Cash, who successfully led the effort in Texas—was also a big part of this victory—which means that all of you who helped were also important to this success. The coalition that made this happen included union members, people from the faith community, social justice activists, environmentalists and others.

No doubt your congresspeople and you helped move the administration on this issue.
