Forward to your friends!

Two issues were of paramount importance at Glasgow:

  1. Cutting emissions sufficiently so as to keep warming at 1.5C or below, and
  2. Setting up a system wherein poor nations, which have been adversely affected by emissions from wealthy countries but have low emissions themselves, would receive aid/reparations from those wealthy countries

Despite 12 days of negotiations, these necessary goals were not achieved.

We’re still hoping to keep warming under 1.5C, but the fact is, we’re on course for 2.4C, which would be catastrophic.  And there was lots of talk about furnishing $100 billion in reparations, to be split among ALL the nations damaged by the emissions from countries like ours, but that amount is completely inadequate. There are reports that 50% of these funds would have to be spent on technology manufactured by western nations, leaving even less for poor countries to deal with the climate chaos caused by those same nations. And remember, Hurricane Sandy alone caused $80 billion in damages, so clearly, we must demand that the numbers be much higher.

Read on for analysis and commentary, and for an important action alert. We must remain hopeful!  Factions from all parts of the world community showed resistance at Glasgow that has been inspirational and invigorating. There are options like fee-and-dividend that could make the difference, but we, the people, have to remain strong to push for the changes we need.

Now is not the time to give up—it’s the time to act!

Biden's Real Opinion on Climate: Drill Baby Drill

ACTION ALERT!

Please call the White House comment line 202-456-1111 and the Congressional switchboard 202-224-3121 and leave this message for President Biden and our Texas Democratic representatives. His administration just oversaw the largest offshore oil drilling permit auction in history... just days after the US made pledges at COP26! Please let Biden and his administration know that we believe it's underhanded and unconscionable that our leadership could make commitments in Glasgow, then turn around and prove they don't care only a few days later!

What We’re Doing, and How You Can Help

The Texas Drought Project was formed in the fall of 2008 when we worked on the first big US climate bill called Waxman-Markey. In the following years, we did much-need climate education and then a series of large successful campaigns.

In anticipation of COP26 in Glasgow, we have made a strong push to get people to call, write, and email 6 targeted Texas Democrats in hopes of pushing them and Biden to act boldly for the climate.

We need only $2500 per month to sustain this critical push to our last best chance for a safe future.  Any donation of $100 or more will be matched!

We need help, please be as generous as you can.
