Western Megadrought:

A Glimpse into Texas's Future

The pressure of the 22-year-long drought in the Western US has come to bear not just on farmers and ranchers, but on cities large and small.  Development in areas without sufficient water is leading to dry wells and dead farms.  Since hydro-power from the Hoover Dam depends on releasing water from Lake Mead, it is now a choice of "do you want power or water?"

Media & Textbook's

Coverage of Climate Change

While the media loves to report on topics such as drought and floods, they rarely mention climate change.  Likewise in Texas, "climate change" is such a politically-charged phrase that legislation cannot move forward, so politicians use phrases like "changing weather patterns" and "extreme weather."  Meanwhile, mentions of climate change in college textbooks peaked in the 1990s and have decreased since then.

What We’re Doing and How You Can Help

The Texas Drought Project was formed in the fall of 2008 when we worked on the first big US climate bill called Waxman-Markey. In the following years, we did much-need climate education and then a series of large successful campaigns.

In the wake of COP26 in Glasgow, we have made a strong push to get people to call, write, and email targeted Texas Democrats in hopes of pushing them and Biden to act boldly for the climate.

We need only $2500 per month to sustain this critical push to our last best chance for a safe future.  Any donation of $50 will be doubled and any donation of $100 or more will be tripled!
