We all have a very full agenda with Climate Chaos, an accelerating and terrifying pandemic, and growing attacks on our voting rights. Today we are hoping that you will make a simple phone call to your favorite US Congressional Representative on the two issues of Fee and Dividend and Protecting Voting Rights. Then please sign the pandemic petition.

Fee and Dividend

In our last eNews, we announced that we now saw little chance of any significant legislation passing in the Senate. Therefore, after over two years of educating about the Green New Deal our main focus now is getting wide support for Fee and Dividend.

Pandemic

The past few weeks have shown us that there's no way for Americans to be safe from COVID while variants are allowed to rage throughout the world for lack of access to vaccines, test kits and medicines.  Please sign this petition urging the White House to expand global access to vaccine supplies.

Protecting Voting Rights

Recently we participated in the Texas Poor People’s campaign in part to protect the voting rights of everyone. Call your favorite congressperson and urge them to fight this threat to our Democracy.  Please call your representative using the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121

Climate Change Linked to 5 Million Deaths a Year, New Study Shows

The extraordinarily hot and cold temperatures that are becoming more common as climate change accelerates are responsible for 5 million deaths globally every year, according to a new study. The research, which is the first to link changes in temperatures to annual increases in mortality, found that extreme weather accounted for 9.4 percent of all deaths globally between 2000 and 2019. What We’re Doing, and How You Can Help

The Texas Drought Project was formed in the fall of 2008 when we worked on the first big US climate bill called Waxman-Markey. In the following years we did climate education all over the state in hundreds of forums. In 2015 we started doing a series of large projects that were successful because of all the friends and supporters we had made.  Click here to read more about our history!

Recently recognizing that no significant climate legislation would pass in the Senate we started supporting a version of Fee and Dividend which could be enacted by the President without congressional approval.

We have been successful in this work because we recognize the power of coalitions which we have repeatedly relied on. A good example is our work to support the Green New Deal by forming large and diverse coalitions in 12 congressional districts. We are also adept at organizing phone banks, unleashing robust social media, postcard and letter-writing campaigns to get tens of thousands to contact their representatives.
