WE’VE MOBILIZED BEFORE AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN.

At 503 members, lobbyists from fossil fuel companies comprise the largest delegation at Glasgow—larger than any one country’s delegation—before adding in all those embedded in various country delegations. They’re in Glasgow to protect their profits—and the greater capitalistic system—even if that means the deaths of billions in the future and the annual deaths of 9 millions in the present, due to the deadly air and water pollution they unleash in our communities.

This isn’t surprising—fossil fuel companies have everything to lose if COP 26 seriously considers protecting the people of this planet rather than their profits. We must mobilize quickly, as we did in WWII, and transition from fossil fuels to renewables and sustainable practices. But the plan at Glasgow seems to be business-as-usual. Since the beginning of these negotiations in the late 90’s, fossil fuel interests have always won, and they seem to be winning again at COP 26. And if they win, humanity loses. 

Until the mid-1980’s fossil fuel interests’ scientists shared the same conclusions as others—that climate change was real and manmade.  But when environmentalists started organizing to limit greenhouse gases and adopt cleaner fuels, they realized that their scientists could undermine their bottom line. Greed took over—they fired them and began funding climate deniers.

Fossil fuel lobbyists largely control our media, many of our politicians—at all levels—with their donations/bribes, and our government bureaucracies with their many so-called experts. They have embraced corruption on a massive scale, and taken unbridled capitalism to new heights of pure greed and selfishness. No one matters except them and their pursuit of the almighty dollar. This greedy capitalistic system must be abandoned and we must find a better way. We must... and we can!

Please call the White House comment line 202-456-1111 and the Congressional switchboard 202-224-3121 and leave this message for the President and Texas Democratic representatives: "Glasgow will likely end in failure. Time is running out for humanity. What will you do now? What will your children and grandchildren think of your inaction when societies are collapsing and thousands of people are dying around them? Fossil fuels are killing the planet. And they could very possibly kill us all."

The Texas Drought Project was formed in the fall of 2008 when we worked on the first big US climate bill called Waxman-Markey. In the following years, we did much-need climate education and then a series of large successful campaigns.

In anticipation of COP26 in Glasgow, we have made a strong push to get people to call, write, and email 6 targeted Texas Democrats in hopes of pushing them and Biden to act boldly for the climate.
