Wes Sims, (1936-2022)

Wesley Ray Sims, of Sweetwater Texas, passed away, peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 31, 2022.

Wes is survived by his wife Latria, brother Leslie Van Sims and wife Pat, sons Butch and wife Cherry, Vance and wife Jill, grandchildren Luke Sims, Katie Hartman (Chris), Leigh Ann Williams (Conner), Chase Sims (Molly), Laura Lynn Sims and Clint Sims, great grandchildren Charlie and Scarlett Hartman and Oliver and Pierce Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wes was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Verdena May and Miles Ray Sims on May 16, 1936. He married Latria Redden on January 21, 1955. Wes spent most of his life dairy farming and ranching. He loved fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, all sports and cooking new recipes.

He began advocating for farmers, dairy farmers and ranchers in 1966. He then joined Texas Farmers Union, where he served as Vice President, becoming President in 1996. He served TFU until retiring in 2022. His dedication and belief in the Farmers Union were unwavering and will always be remembered.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Sims August 10, 1973, his parents, Miles Ray (August 17, 1991) and Verdena Mae Moore (June 3, 1980) Sims.  To send a flower arrangement or to plant trees in memory of Wesley Sims, visit McCoy Funeral Home’s Sympathy Store.
